Money Saving Tips for your Clothes – Part 2
- Use two trouser suits to prolong the life of your suit – When buying a suit, try and get two trousers and put a number 1 and 2 on the inside label. You wear trousers 1 on one day and trousers 2 on another day. Ideally if you have two or three suits you can stretch this out, so your trousers don’t look worn and torn. Additionally, follow tip 1 and put them on the shower door after a working day before putting them back in the wardrobe.
- Look after your ties – Ties are a very delicate silk fabric and need to really be looked after. When you have finished with your tie for the day, flatten it out, then roll it up or hang it up on a tie rack. Silk is a relaxed fabric and it will stretch out to its original shape. Ties are not cheap especially the nice silk ones, so look after them
- Mix and match to create multiple outfits – It gets very expensive to have one tie for one shirt or one shirt and tie combo for just one suit. So when you are buying your outfits take pictures of shirts and ties you have now. Then you can make sure when you are buying new clothes that they go with your existing wardrobe. If you get one tie that goes with two shirts, that is two outfits for the week, plus you then don’t need an extra tie for your 2nd shirt. Instant cost saving!

Money Saving Tips for your Clothes – Part 1
Money saving tips for your Clothes – Part 1
- Save on dry cleaning bills – Many people will come back in the New Year and think it is a good time to dry clean work outfits. This is not cheap, especially when you have several outfits to get dry cleaned at once. If your clothes are not stained, then what you can do is hang them up on the back of the door when you are having a shower. The steam will freshen up the outfit and give the fabric a whole new lease of life. Plus it didn’t cost you a penny.
- Make your shirts last longer – I see many guys coming into my store and they have ruined their shirts by ironing the collar and cuffs. This is the first place that shirts will look old and tattered. The collars/cuffs are fused and they will keep their shape after washing so there is no need to iron them. It will make your shirts last a lot longer. If you have collar stays, remove them before washing, then give the collar a light press on low heat before putting the collar stays back in.
- Follow care label instructions – Please follow the care label instructions in your garment. I have seen so many people ruin their clothes when they put their items in a washing machine when it says dry clean only. Follow the instructions and your garments will last. Remember they are an investment into your image at work, so look after them.

What should my son wear to his school formal?
Your son has mentioned his school formal is coming up, but he is growing at a rate of knots and you definitely want to keep the cost down. Or you want to get him a nice suit so that he can wear it to weddings and interviews.
We recommend black as a great all-round suit, and perfect for a formal. Nice and simple and then you can accessorize with the shirt, tie and lapel flower.
Normally these accessories tie in with what the girl is wearing, so make sure you prompt him to find out in advance.
As well as being a great colour for formals, black suits are perfect for interviews, weddings and funerals, so see it as a bit of an investment, not just a purchase for a one-off occasion.
Q for you
1) Have you bought your formal suit already, but aren’t sure how to match your partner?
2) Are you unsure on sizing and need some help?

Do’s and Don’t on Buying Mens Clothes on the Internet
H’s Dress Tip
- When you are buying Clothes on the Internet, look out for the colours, some reds look like mauves, Blues are black so read the descriptions carefully.
- Buying a Suit or a Shirt could save you money but ask yourself, will the fit be right? is the fabric what I am looking for? will I need further alterations to it when I try it on?
- There is nothing like touching and feeling a garment before you buy.
A Q for you
- Do You Shop on the Internet and if so what have you bought?
- Have you had a good experience and if so why?
- Why do you Buy on the Internet?
- If you have had a bad experience what was it?

Risking It All
We get many customers who pop in, wanting to be a little more adventurous with what they wear. However after trying on a few different things, they end up going back to what they are comfortable with. They will still wear the same charcoal or navy suit and the same style blue shirt as before. Mind you, there is nothing wrong with being like that. I was the same myself once upon a time.
4 years ago, my younger sister Reena passed away at the age of 26 from ovarian cancer. One thing I learnt from her is that life truly is all about living. Life should be about colour; about experimenting; about trying new things and having new experiences. But that requires us to take some risks and to step out of our comfort zones a little.
That’s precisely what I did with 16 great friends this weekend, when we completed a sky dive to raise money for ovarian cancer!
While I was in the plane, the higher we flew, the more nervous I became. Then the instructor told me “It’s time”. The door opened and I was the first one out. I gingerly stepped out on the wing…. and then couldn’t move any further! I was frozen for what seemed like a lifetime. The instructor gave me a nudge, and I leapt into the unknown. Taking that leap was such an incredibly amazing feeling. I would do it all again tomorrow!
This same principle applies to how we dress.
It may seem a little risky trying a new colour or a new style. Questions will go through your mind. Will the wife / partner like it? Can I wear these sorts of colours at work? Will people laugh at me?
But as I said, life is about colour, about trying new things and about experimenting. So this season, try some brighter colours or some different styles that you wouldn’t normally try. You’ll stand out from the crowd and will feel more confident for having stepped outside your comfort zone.
If it doesn’t feel right then you can go back to the same style. But what have you got to lose? Compared to jumping out of a plane it’s hardly a risk is it?!
So go on, take a leap and try something different!!!

Travelling in a suit
If you travel on a plane for business and need to go to a meeting immediately after you land, wear a nice pure wool suit, though not too thin a fabric as it will end up looking completely creased. A super 100 to 130 fabric is ideal. Pick a cotton rich shirt (55 – 60% cotton, the rest polyester). This won’t crease on the plane whilst you are sitting down. I suggest you wear your suit jacket, shirt and jeans. Get the attendant to hang your trousers up, then just before you land, slip them on. Keep the tie in your suit pocket and put it on also as you land or before you get to your meeting. ( use a mirror ).

Hiten, If I get a chance to get to the City it would be great to pick up a deal on a suit. Shopfitters only need one (1) suit so anything else to offer? Cheers Glenn Ryder
